Emma B asked:

i am currently studing this course from home - do you know if this will get me a good beauty therapy job when i have finished? I am about a quarter of the way through the course and am doing really well!

the only problem i face is i am not getting any hands on experience except for practicing on my friends and family which wont really help to get a job!

I am thinking it might be a good idea to get a job in a shop selling beauty products but i have no sales experience either.

Is there any websites or recruitment agencies (UK based) that deal just with beauty therapy jobs?

I am also worried as I get really nervous in interviews so I’m not sure if I will even get in a job if I get too nervous and can’t sell myself!

do you know what job’s i can look for with the qualification that i will have at the end of my course?

Full Body Massage Therapy Tips & Techniques

November 25th, 2008
beauty therapy
Body Tissue asked:

Massage has been used as a curing therapy for many thousands of years. Records dating back to 2700 B.C. show that in China massage was used to treat many illnesses or to prevent any. Even Hippocrates, the famous Greek physician writing in 400 B.C., recommended that physicians should treat war or sports injuries with rubbing and massage.

The ancient cultures of Japan, Rome, Egypt and Arabia all considered massage to be calming, soothing and relaxing, and also very important as a therapeutic therapy. Now, in the 21st century, there are many different kinds of massage therapies available, each of which offers specific benefits to the mind and body. Full Body Massage is one of them.

These forms of specific massage can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, plus they can be used to simply unwind and relax.

What are the benefits?

Full Body Massage promotes relaxation and improved sleep, eases the symptoms of stiff, tired joints, encourages improved circulation and speeds up digestion. Clients who have experienced these forms of dedicated massage report that they find the treatment soothing and relaxing.

The skin’s natural functions will be stimulated improving the condition of the skin and the warmth created will help relax the body physically and mentally. Full Body Massage technique involves a sequence of movements working superficially and deeper into the tissue layers. Movements such as effleurage work over the skin with the palm of the hand producing relaxation, whereas movements like petrissage work deeply. Petrissage movements such as wringing and kneading will help to relieve tension promoting deep relaxation in the tissues and muscles.

What to expect?

As no two people are alike, the body massage routine will be tailored to the client’s needs. For those clients who are apprehensive about a massage treatment and of course the stigma attached to this may need some reassurance. A professional Massage Therapist will offer this treatment respecting the client’s modesty at all times. The client is covered in towels, which are turned back to reveal only the area to be massaged at that time. Areas massaged in a full body massage are normally back, legs (back and front), arms front of shoulders and optionally abdomen.

By ensuring you call only a reputable, established company that has professional certificates and qualifications for its therapists, you will receive a wonderful, relaxing, treatment.

Why a Full Body Massage?

The massage is good for people who want to unwind and relax! It is a very relaxing and soothing massage. Available full Body Massages are for example:

-Swedish

-Holistic

-Deep Tissue

-Aromatherapy

As with any massage, it’s a good idea to avoid big meals and alcohol beforehand.

At BTS all our mobile massage and beauty therapists are qualified, extremely experienced, uniformed, vetted, professional yet friendly in their approach and provide only the best client care at all times. Also, after the completion of their massage diploma BTS provides in-house Deep Tissue Massage training.

Careers in Massage Therapy

November 18th, 2008
beauty therapy
CarolAnn Bailey-Lloyd asked:

Through 2016, outlook for careers in massage therapy is expected to be very good; primarily because the benefits of massage are gaining notoriety in the natural healthcare industry.

Education

Before you jump on the massage bandwagon, it is essential that you acquire the skills and training necessary for the field. Achieving fast growing careers in massage therapy takes time, willingness to apply your self, and the desire to help others in healing.

It’s also a good idea to review the massage school in which you’d like to enroll. While there are a number of technical colleges that provide massage therapy training, there are also many qualified massage schools that provide excellent massage curricula.

Careers in massage therapy vary, so it’s critical to determine what your professional goals are before you apply to the school of your choice. For example, if you would like to become nationally certified, you must locate a massage school that provides 500+ hours training in massage therapy. In addition to general anatomy and physiology, typical massage programs entail modalities like deep tissue, Swedish and sports massage. Note, however, that more advanced somatic programs may offer diverse techniques such as acupressure, medical massage, infant/prenatal massage, and Trigger Point, among others.

Professional Atmospheres

Unlike other healthcare professions, massage therapists have a broader scope of working environments from which to choose. Were you aware that careers in massage therapy can lead you aboard cruise ships, beautiful retreats, and at sporting arenas? Traditional work settings like hospitals, physical therapy clinics, and nursing homes commonly have positions for licensed bodyworkers; however, professional massage therapists have the option to work in spas, massage clinics, and fitness centers, among others.

Like the idea of being self-employed? Then careers in massage therapy can lead to successful entrepreneurialships, where you can reap the rewards of setting your own hours and becoming your own boss. In 2006, roughly 60 percent of massage therapists were self-employed.

Due to the increasing interest in natural and alternative health modalities like massage and holistic health, chances are that careers in massage therapy will continue to grow to meet consumer demands.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other bodywork programs, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore careers in massage therapy near you.

Using Massage Therapy for Cellulite Reduction

November 13th, 2008

Zebra Avenue asked:

One of the excellent treatments by which you can achieve cellulite reduction is through massage.

Massage is also beneficial for your skin and can mobilize the cellulite in your body along with cellulite creams, exercise and proper diet.

Massage is the term used to describe the process of rubbing and kneading the skin. This is usually performed by a skilled therapist.

Gentle rubbing and kneading of the skin increases blood circulation and results to smoothing out of the soft skin tissues.

Massage further eliminates unwanted fluids in the body by flushing it out. These unwanted fluids actually cause cellulite propagation.

If you are considering on having a massage, your choice of essential oil can help you relax and soothe your senses.

Choose oils that can stimulate your skin cells as well such as Rosemary and Lavender essential oils.

Modern beauty salons and spas incorporate massage for cellulite treatments. They refer to this as anti-cellulite massage. It is usually a part of their anti-cellulite treatment package.

The price for this services can be quite premium and can cost as much as $300.00/treatment. Spas and Salons usually make use of high-end massage machines intended for cellulite treatment complete with massage rollers that provide deep and intense massage.

It is important to study the services provided by the beauty salons very well. Some may not be equivalent to your money’s worth.

Make sure that they are equipped with the right and safe equipments. Some spas attract people with advertisements but actually have lousy services. Anyone would not want to risk their money by paying substandard services and ineffective treatments.

Massage therapy usually takes 30 minutes to one hour. This usually involves a program comprising of several treatment sessions.

You will need to complete several sessions to achieve significant results. Aside from cellulite reduction, massage also improves the elasticity of your skin, improves your mood and relaxes your body.

The Healthy Benefits From Infrared Sauna Therapy

November 10th, 2008
beauty therapy
Adam Hefner asked:

In this age of information, many people are determined to take charge of their own health. One great way that we do this is through regular infrared sauna therapy. People might take advantage of this alternative medicine practice to manage a specific medical condition or they may just be encouraging general health.

Infrared radiation is similar to the light of the sun in that it is able to warm its object without warming the air between it and the object. So infrared is very efficient and very potent when harnessed for sauna therapy.

Unlike traditional saunas that only warm the outermost layer of skin, infrared light penetrates several inches beneath the skin. The healing benefits of sauna therapy are no longer just for the superficial layers of the skin, but for the muscular tissues and even the internal organs as well.

For hundreds of years, saunas have been popular ways to detoxify your body. Infrared saunas provide a more effective way to cleanse your body of harmful chemicals and toxins. Infrared therapy induces perspiration that rids our bodies of all kinds of excess chemicals. It also opens up blocked pores to produce smoother, more beautiful skin while preventing future acne.

People often use infrared saunas as a tool to manage their body weight. Several hundred calories are burned in each session. Of course a lot of this is water weight which is quickly regained, but the increased blood flow from infrared therapy fosters a better, faster metabolism in daily life.

Infrared saunas increase circulation, reducing stress in those with even the busiest lives. Research even suggests that people with mild clinical depression feel better with regular infrared therapy.

Overall immune system function is also increased with this type of therapy. In an infrared sauna, the core body temperature actually raises an average of one to three degrees. This is simulating a fever, which sends the immune system into attack mode. When our bodies are compromised with bacteria or viruses, a fever is the first line of defense against them.

Suffers of musculoskeletal issues like arthritis, bursitis, or other types of lower back and joint pain say that sessions in an infrared sauna help improve their conditions. Even temporary conditions like tense muscles or tenderness after exercise are managed well in this way.

Regular periods of relaxation in an infrared sauna really can make a world of difference to your health. Don’t neglect this invaluable form of alternative medicine the next time you are looking to better your health.

Beauty Schools

November 6th, 2008

CarolAnn Bailey-Lloyd asked:

Find Beauty Schools in the United States and Canada. Today’s Beauty consultants have successfully completed hands-on training in one of several beauty schools; which provide comprehensive curriculums and educational opportunities that enhance and develop careers in the spa, beauty and wellness industries.

While the majority of beauty schools vary in specific curriculums, a great number of program offerings include individual coursework in cosmetology, aesthetics, nail technician, barbering, and sometimes, massage therapy.

Any one of the several beauty schools introduces students to the world of cosmetics, hair styling, coloring, chemical mixing, hair treatments, skin care, herbal wrap applications, and more. Instructing students in how to give manicures and pedicures, cosmetology programs in beauty schools also teach individuals about artificial nail application, as well as nail gels, tips, and hand massage. Additional cosmetology training at beauty schools involves the how-tos on the application of facials, microdermabrasion and advanced make-up techniques.

For the student primarily interested in esthetics, beauty schools frequently provide certificate and/or diploma programs in this program, as well as other associated studies like nail technician training, and even instructor training.

Overall, beauty schools train and prepare students to attain respective State certification and/or licensure* to practice professionally. (*Regulations/requirements vary in individual States and Provinces.) Ultimately, the goal for future barbers and beauticians is to have acquired essential knowledge and skills necessary to become thriving spa and salon managers, and entrepreneurs. Though income varies, licensed beauty experts have the potential to earn $35,000-$43,000+ annually.

To learn more about beauty schools, or if you are interested in becoming a beautician, cosmetologist or beauty consultant, feel free to search our vocational schools directory.
